Haiku! Poetry!

We have been learning to write haiku poems.

A haiku is an unrhymed three-line poem. It is based on a traditional Japanese poetic form.

A haiku has 5 syllables for the first line, 7 for the second and 5 for the third.

Check out this website::: http://writeahaiku.com/#

A haiku to help you remember:
I am first with five,
Then seven in the middle --
Five again to end.

Similes

We have been learning to write similes. Similes compare two things using like or as. Here is a selection of some of the similes we wrote!

She is as sweet as candy.
He is as heavy as a 20,000 kg anchor.
Feels as soft as a  feather.

Feels rough as a porcupine
Sounds noisy as as lawn mower
Is as light as a bit of dust

Room 5 Plays Term 1

For the last week of Term 1 Room 5 was learning about plays and acting.

We were separated into five groups. Each group had a leader who was in charge of the group. We performed our plays in front of our buddy class on the last day of term. We were learning to read aloud with fluency and timing. Each group got to make props and costumes for their plays.

These photos are from our performances.

The Shadow by Josh

                                                          The Shadow

The Shadow... She is a bad guy  who works for the agency b.g.a.. She wears cool clothes made out of rubber and silk, she wears black shades, a black cap, carries a magnify find glass and carries  keys in her pocket. The Shadow hides her face by putting a newspaper in front of her face. She is swift and stealthy. The Shadow sneaks like a flash, she is as fast as lighting.

By Josh

We have been learning to write character descriptions. For this description we were writing character descriptions based on some character clues Ms Cleland gave us. The character had a black cap, a newspaper, keys, black sunglasses and a magnify glass. This is the story Josh wrote.
